Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials 1 - 4 September 2022

The Countdown Is On...

A royal affair

HRH the Princess Royal will be presenting the prizes at the conclusion of the CCI5* competition at Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials this year. The event holds many happy memories for the Princess Royal - it was here that she won the European Championships on Doublet, owned by HM The Queen, in 1971, and her daughter, Zara Tindall, finished second to Pippa Funnell at Land Rover Burghley in 2003, riding Toytown. Zara is competing once again in 2022, this time on Class Affair.

Practice makes perfect for Team GB

Britain’s team for the forthcoming FEI World Eventing Championships in Pratoni del Vivaro, Italy (15-18 September) will practise the dressage tests they are due to perform in Pratoni at Land Rover Burghley after the CCI5* dressage has concluded for the day on Thursday 1st September. Make sure you stay around to give them a true championship atmosphere!

Bed down at Burghley Boutique

If you’re struggling to find local accommodation and we know it’s in short supply, consider treating yourself to an indulgent glamping experience.  There are still a few luxury tents available situated within the Walled Garden of Burghley House, so literally at the heart of the action.  Offering hardwood beds and memory foam mattresses, hot showers, a complimentary breakfast, onsite bar and restaurant, guest speakers and golf buggies to navigate the show ground, it’s no ordinary camping experience.  Dogs are welcome too.

Feast at a Burghley banquet

On Friday 2nd September, the William Cecil, a boutique hotel nestled neatly within the Burghley estate, will celebrate the Burghley Horse Trials by hosting a bespoke banquet for anyone wishing to mark the occasion in style. The evening will commence with British fizz and oysters on the lawn, before offering guests the opportunity to sit down and enjoy a sumptuous three-course banquet in its marquee — prepared meticulously by Head Chef Liam, using carefully selected ingredients from local suppliers, alongside specially selected wines.

The intimate evening will be hosted by equestrian broadcaster John Kyle in conversation with Burghley legends Captain Mark Phillips and Andrew Hoy. Guests will have the opportunity to engage in conversation with the special guests in a Q&A session.  To reserve a place visit

Kick back, relax and enjoy Burghley TV

Burghley TV - the only way to watch all the action from Land Rover Burghley 2022, from the first horse inspection to the final show jumping and prize-giving ceremony – has confirmed a brilliant line-up of presenters. Nick Luck, known to many as the face of the BBC’s equestrian coverage in the past few years and one of racing’s most acclaimed broadcasters, will head up the coverage, alongside “roving reporter” Rosie Tapner. John Kyle and Nicole Brown will provide the commentary, alongside a panel of expert guests. A Burghley TV subscription costs £20 for an entire year - visit to sign up.

Find out what our sponsors have in store

The luxury Holland Cooper label will have a considerable presence at Burghley for 2022. Several leading riders, including Piggy March, Kitty King and Bubby Upton are expected to sport Holland Cooper at the horse inspections and the classic brand - sought after for its tailored elegance and strong sense of British style – will be launching its new handmade suede Albany boots at Burghley.

Another quintessentially British sponsor is lifestyle clothing company Beaufort & Blake, which will be showcasing its new autumn collection on both the Burghley Big Screen and Burghley TV. Those attending the event should also look out for a special gift card from Beaufort & Blake, included within the Official Land Rover Burghley Programme Bundle. Visit and signup to their newsletter to be first to hear when the new collection drops.

Joules, which has had a long association with Burghley and has been its official clothing partner for some years, is extending and strengthening its partnership with the addition of the Joules Market Square. This will encompass a curated marketplace of “Friends of Joules” - especially sought-out exhibitors, which Joules knows its customers love. At the centre of this vibrant area will be a dog agility course, where visitors can bring their canine friends of all shapes and sizes to take part in a just-for-fun agility course on each day of the event. Each dog who completes the course will receive a rosette, and there will be plenty of dog treats on offer!

Renowned sterling silver jewellers Hiho Silver have been a staple shopping destination at Burghley Horse Trials for the best part of the last 30 years. This year they will be returning to showcase their beautiful range of Equestrian and Countryside-inspired jewellery – so drop by stand A7 to treat yourself or find the perfect gift.

Once again Hiho Silver will sponsor the best dressed riders’ competition at the first horse inspection and the team are eagerly awaiting a first look at the outfits this year’s competitors have chosen.  With the bar for rider ‘turn out’ getting higher each year, it’s going to be a tough call choosing who is ‘hottest to trot’ at this year’s event.
