Ian Millar & Big Ben - 1986 Hamburg Derby
Big Ben was one of the sport’s biggest names during a golden era for Jumping, vying with fellow superstars like Milton and Jappeloup in front of packed stands and huge TV audiences.
His success over a full decade with Canada’s Millar came despite many having written him off as a youngster – at 17.3 hands, many thought he was too big to fly – and some serious health issues. But with countless victories, three Olympic Games appearances and more than $1.5m in winnings to his name, Big Ben instead proved to be one of the all-time greats.
