INTRODUCING THE 2023 GCL TEAM - The Rome Gladiators

Rome Gladiators head into the Championship battle with returning riders Shane Breen, Beth Underhill and Nina Mallevaey (U25), who are joined by Jos Verlooy, Michael Duffy and Trevor Breen, set to make their mark on the season ahead. 

Shane Breen Competing for: Ireland Age: 48

Having competed for New York Empire and Miami Celtics, Shane moved to Rome Gladiators for the 2022 season as the team returned to the circuit. With a number of new faces for 2023 on the team, Shane will need to impart some experience to his teammates in their bid for glory in 2023.

Nina Mallevaey Competing for: France Age: 23

2022 was Nina's first season on the LGCT and GCL circuit, and she will be building on her existing competition experience, including Youth Nations Cups, in this new year. She rides for Rome Gladiators in 2023, alongside a host of exciting new talent looking to start strongly against some of the more established teams on the circuit. 

Jos Verlooy Competing for: Belgium Age: 27

Jos has gained valuable experience as a U25 rider on the GCL team competition throughout the seasons, competing on different teams, starting with the Antwerp Diamonds in 2016, then moving onto the Hamburg Diamonds and the Montreal Diamonds before transferring to the Monaco Aces in 2019. In 2022 he joined the Miami Celtics and in 2023 we see him join an impressive line-up of athletes in the Rome Gladiators. Starting as a key member of the team, all eyes will be on the championship race as it unfolds throughout the year.

Trevor Breen Competing for: Ireland Age: 44

This will be Trevor's team debut with Rome Gladiators.

Beth Underhill Competing for: Canada Age: 60

Since her debut as a representative of Canada in 1990, Beth has held numerous titles, including Olympian, team rider for World Championships and Pan American Games, Canadian High Performance Committee Member, and Canadian Young Rider Coach, among others. Beth returns to the GCL circuit for 2023 with Rome Gladiators. Having ridden for the team in 2022.

Michael Duffy Competing for: Ireland Age: 28

Michael joins the Rome Gladiators in 2023 as an exciting injection of fresh talent having made the move from the Miami Celtics. He will be riding alongside Jos Verlooy, Trevor Breen, Shane Breen, Beth Underhill and Nina Mallevaey.
