A year before the Paris Olympic Games, the best event riders on the continent will be determined to make their mark. The promise of exciting sport for all equestrian enthusiasts. Tickets can already be booked online.
9th to the 13th of August 2023: Equestrian fans and, more broadly, all lovers of sports have long since had these dates noted in their diaries. All will be converging on the Haras National du Pin, situated in the department of Orne, for the FEI Eventing European Championship, the fourth time that they have been held in France (After Pau in 2001, Fontainebleau in 2009, and the Haras du Pin in 1969).
Just a year before Paris 2024, this continental gathering will be a great opportunity for all the European teams to look towards the Olympic Games and to undertake a real review of their numbers at a top level event. All the more so as the designer of the cross-country course, Pierre Le Goupil, will also be officiating in Paris, thus allowing the athletes to discover his style.
Organised by the very experienced Normandy based association Ustica, which is familier with this level of excellence - it has been organising Le Grand Complet since 1995 - this event benefits from an exceptional setting. Fifty-four years after the first European Championship organised at Le Pin (with a team victory for Great Britain and an individual victory for the British rider Mary Gordon-Watson on Cornishman), around 80 horse and rider combinations representing in the region of twenty nations are expected to attend.
THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF SPORT
With the bulk of the World's top eventers being European (with the exception of Australia, New Zealand and the United States), the sporting battle promises to be particularly intense. Who will succeed to succeed Nicola Wilson on Dublin in the individual event, and the British team, crowned in Avenches (Switzerland), in 2021 ?
Eight times silver medallists, nine times bronze, France will be hoping to take advantage of being on home soil to win its first European team title and make a mark twelve months before the Olympic showdown in the gardens of the Château de Versailles. The French will also want to excel in the individual competition, following in the footsteps of Jean-Lou Bigot European Champion with Twist La Beige in 1993 and Nicolas Touzaint, twice gold medallist with Galan de Sauvagère in 2003 and 2007.
AN OPTIMISED TRAFFIC PLAN FOR ACCESS TO THE SITE
Anxious to offer a unique experience to visitors, the organising committee has carefully studied the different solutions to ensure optimum access to the site. ‘’We’ve already worked with the Prefecture in order to set up a traffic plan to guarantee the arrival of spectators in the best conditions, in particular on Saturday, the day of the cross-country, when the crowd is always the largest,’’ reassures Valérie Moulin. ‘’We want to encourage the use of shuttles, especially from Argentan station as well as carpooling. This is also part of our eco-responsible approach. A paying car park will be available close to the competition, but only if pre-booked. We’re also counting on spectators to anticipate their travel.’’
SPORT, EXHIBITORS, ENTERTAINMENT AND A TICKETING SYSTEM ACCESSIBLE TO ALL
In addition to the sporting dimension of the event, the FEI Eventing European Championship will also be an opportunity to take avantage of a unique setting, entirely renovated to host major events, to meet numerous exhibitors and to attend many activities (animations). ‘’Together with all the players in the equine industry, we want to make these European Championship a great celebration’’, confides the organising committee’s chairperson. ‘’For many months, the whole team has been investing a great deal of energy. It’s a huge challenge that we’ve taken up with the help of our partners, notably the Normandy Region, the Orne County Council, Argentan Intercom and the Haras National du Pin.’
From the 9th to the 13th of August 2023, the Haras du Pin will definitely be "the place to be".
Take advantage of our Christmas rates until January 15th!
