There’s always a frisson around the trot-up, as this year’s fit, gleaming contenders are presented to the ground jury by their stylishly dressed riders. This year we’re offering 100 guests the chance to make even more of Wednesday afternoon at Burghley by combining the trot-up with a first-class champagne cream tea, and expert insights on this year’s event and course from some Burghley legends. You are warmly invited therefore for:
- A cream tea with Pol Roger in Members’ from 2.30pm before the trot-up takes place at 4pm
- A brief introduction to this year’s event and course from Mark Phillips, formerly Burghley’s cross-country course designer for many years and a Burghley winner himself
- Access to watch the trot-up from the centre of the main arena – the side of the trot-up not usually open to the public
- Followed by a tour of five key fences on this year’s course in groups of no more than 25 guests, led by a legend of the sport such as Mark Phillips or former British senior eventing team coach and chef d’equipe Yogi Breisner
Tea and the Trot-Up costs £300 per head and is limited to 100 places. Burghley Horse Trials is free to enter on Wednesday, so you do not need to buy a separate entrance ticket.
We are delighted to welcome Horatio’s Garden to Burghley as our supported charity this year.
Horatio’s Garden, whose Main Avenue show garden won Best in Show at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show recently, nurtures the wellbeing of people after spinal injury in beautiful, accessible, restorative sanctuaries within the heart of NHS spinal injury centres. The charity’s gardens are vital places for reflection and adjustment for people facing these life-changing injuries and long stays in hospital, and have a profoundly positive impact for patients, their loved ones and NHS staff.
The charity is named after Horatio Chapple, who had the original idea to create a garden for patients with spinal injuries and their loved ones while volunteering at the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre in Salisbury during his school holidays. The first garden opened in 2012 and following its enormous success, a nationwide charity was henceforth formed with the mission to open a Horatio’s Garden in all 11 UK spinal injury centres.
To celebrate the launch of the new Bates Isabell Icon, Burghley has teamed up with Bates Saddles to offer one lucky person the chance to win a Bates saddle of their choice, worth around £3,000.
To enter, find the Bates competition post on Defender Burghley’s Facebook or Instagram pages, follow us and Bates, and tag a friend who’d like the opportunity of winning a new saddle too!
Burghley TV’s brilliant mix of high-quality livestream coverage of every minute of the sporting action, revealing interviews and behind-the-scenes features was a smash hit with viewers in 2022.
Burghley TV works with an entirely different production team to any other five-star event and won rave reviews from users last year for its ease of use and brilliant, insightful commentary. We are thrilled to announce that Nick Luck and Rosie Tapner will again be presenting this year’s Burghley TV production.
Nick needs no introduction – he is one of the most celebrated racing presenters of his generation and has been the HWPA’s Broadcaster of the Year a record eight times. He also heads up the BBC’s equestrian coverage, including at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Former top model Rosie – she made the cover of Vogue when she was 16 - is swiftly making her name, too, in racing broadcasting. She events her own ex-racehorse when she has time, and regularly rides out for trainer Charlie Hills.
They will be supported by highly experienced equestrian commentators Tina Cook, John Kyle, Nicola Brown and Nicola Wilson, among others.
A subscription to Burghley TV costs £20 for the year and includes a huge archive of last year’s and previous Burghleys.
